Doctor Who Gifts: Sonic Screwdrivers, TARDIS Replicas and More

Updated November 1, 2026

The safest Doctor Who gift is one of the show’s two icons: a sonic screwdriver or a TARDIS. Character Options, the BBC’s long-standing toy licensee, makes electronic sonics for younger fans and limited electroplated editions for collectors. TARDIS gifts range from light-up tree ornaments to the retired LEGO Ideas set. For a fan who already has both, look at the new Funko Pops released in August 2026, the Time of the Daleks board game or licensed clothing. This guide sorts the options by the person you are buying for and explains what each official product is.

All of the products below are made under licence from BBC Studios, which handles Doctor Who consumer products. Our own picks are in two collections: Doctor Who Christmas gifts, which has Dalek and TARDIS tree ornaments, and Doctor Who clothes, with T-shirts, a hoodie, a scarf and a winter hat.

Where the show stands this Christmas

It helps to know what is on screen before choosing a gift, because some fans will be hoping for a new episode.

The last full series ended with “The Reality War” on 31 May 2025, when Ncuti Gatwa’s Fifteenth Doctor regenerated. In October 2025 the BBC announced a Christmas 2026 special written by Russell T Davies. In June 2026 the BBC cancelled that special and said it would put Doctor Who out to competitive tender, with the BBC keeping the rights and BBC Studios still leading licensing and products. No return date has been set, and no new Doctor has been announced.

The spin-off The War Between the Land and the Sea, starring Russell Tovey and Gugu Mbatha-Raw, began on BBC One and iPlayer on 7 December 2025, with Disney+ carrying it outside the UK in 2026.

For gift buying, that means two things. Fifteenth Doctor merchandise is the newest, and most of it was released in 2024 and 2025. Classic Doctors and the Daleks are a safe choice too, because they never go out of date.

Sonic screwdrivers

The sonic screwdriver is the one gadget every Doctor carries, and almost every Doctor has had a different design. That makes it the most personal gift on this list: ask which Doctor the person likes best before you buy.

Fifteenth Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa). Character Options released this sonic in September 2024 in two versions: a deluxe electroplated limited edition sold through its own shop and a standard painted edition for other retailers. The BBC’s announcement lists five sound and light effects with open and closed modes. Argos’s listing of the standard toy describes a pop-out emitter, a slide-out viewer arm and a power crystal that glows when you twist the lower section open. It runs on three button cells, which Argos lists as included, measures about 22 x 10 x 5 cm and carries a 5+ age mark. For a child, this is the best starting point.

Classic Doctors. Character Options also issues limited editions of older sonics. Forbidden Planet sells a Fifth Doctor sonic in an electroplated finish with four sound effects, running on two LR44 or AG13 cells; demo batteries come in the box. In 2025 Character Options sold a Third Doctor “Vortex Edition” set with an electroplated sonic through its own website. These editions are made in limited numbers and aimed at adult collectors, so check stock before you promise one.

Tenth Doctor. For fans of David Tennant’s Doctor in the US, Walmart lists a Toynk-exclusive Tenth Doctor electronic sonic as officially licensed, with blue lights and sound and an extending tip.

What to check. Look for the BBC Doctor Who logo and a named maker on the box. Generic “sci-fi screwdriver” pens and torches are not licensed, and the shapes are often only close to the real prop.

TARDIS gifts

The TARDIS is the easiest gift for a casual fan, because the blue police box is recognisable even to people who have seen only a few episodes.

Christmas ornaments. Kurt S. Adler makes a licensed range of Doctor Who tree ornaments. Toy Tales describes them as painted plastic pieces about 2.5 to 3.5 inches tall, sold singly or in boxed sets of four or five, with characters including Daleks in several colours, a Cyberman, a Weeping Angel and an Adipose. Kurt Adler’s TARDIS with Wreath ornament (item DW1162) is about 4.5 inches tall, with a wreath on the door and a light effect. Our Christmas gifts collection lists a light-up TARDIS with wreath ornament alongside two boxed ornament sets. They make a good add-on gift or a stocking filler for an adult fan.

Hallmark has also made Keepsake ornaments. Its 2021 TARDIS played the theme music, lit up and came with three LR44 batteries. Those are older releases, so look for them on the second-hand market.

Electronic TARDIS toys. In August 2025 Character Options released a 5.5-inch-scale Fifteenth Doctor TARDIS with lights, sounds and swappable interior cards. It was sold in B&M stores in the UK only, so it is not easy to find elsewhere.

LEGO Ideas 21304. The only official LEGO Doctor Who set came out in December 2015. It has 623 pieces, a 10+ age mark and six minifigures, two of them Daleks. LEGO retired it in December 2016, so any copy you find now will be a second-hand or sealed collector’s box. If the recipient builds LEGO, check whether they already own it before you spend time searching.

Daleks and other villains

A gift built around the Daleks often lands better than one about the Doctor, because the Daleks appear across almost the whole history of the show. Our Christmas collection has a boxed set of four Dalek tree ornaments and a smaller mini ornament set, and our clothing collection has a scarf and a winter hat that pair the TARDIS with Daleks.

For figures, Character Options released a “History of the Daleks” collector set as a B&M exclusive in 2025. Collectors who want a single statement piece should look at the Funko range below, which added two new Daleks in 2026.

Funko Pops

Funko’s Doctor Who range returned in August 2026 after about seven years. Cultbox lists the new figures as the Fifteenth Doctor (his first Pop), the Ninth, Tenth and Eleventh Doctors, River Song, a glow-in-the-dark TARDIS and two Daleks, including a bronze Time War Dalek as an exclusive. Australian retailer JB Hi-Fi lists the Fifteenth Doctor Pop at about 4.1 inches tall. A Pop is a good choice for a teenager or for an adult with a desk or shelf to fill, and because the line is new, it is easy to give several and avoid duplicates.

Clothing and winter gifts

Licensed clothing is a practical gift and easy to get right if you know the size. Our Doctor Who clothes collection has a TARDIS T-shirt in 100% cotton, a zip hoodie printed with the police box window, a TARDIS and Daleks Christmas scarf, and an official BBC beanie made from 100% acrylic. The scarf and hat suit a winter gift, and the hoodie works for anyone who would not wear a printed T-shirt.

Games and books

Doctor Who: Time of the Daleks. In Gale Force Nine’s board game, players take the roles of different Doctors facing the Daleks. The base game has the First, Fourth, Eleventh and Thirteenth Doctors and plays with two to four people; expansions add players up to six. Age marks differ between listings, so treat it as a game for teens and adults.

Doctor Who: The Official Guide. Published in August 2024, this 272-page guide covers all fifteen Doctors. It is a good gift for a younger fan who came to the show recently and wants to catch up.

Doctor Who: Circuit Breaker. In 2026 BBC Studios told a new story starring Jo Martin’s Fugitive Doctor across audio, books, comics and Doctor Who Magazine. One of the books, The Kaleidoscope: Circuit Breaker by Jo Martin, came out in hardback in September 2026. For a fan who is missing new episodes, this is the newest Doctor Who story to give.

Buying tips

  • Ask which Doctor they like. Sonics, Funko Pops and many clothing designs are tied to one era.
  • Check the battery line on electronic toys. Some sonics include button cells, others include only demo cells.
  • Separate toys from decorations. Ornaments and limited edition sonics are made for display, not for young children’s play.
  • Buy licensed items. Look for the BBC logo or a known maker such as Character Options, Funko, Kurt Adler or Hallmark on the packaging.

For more TV gifts, browse the Doctor Who category. If the same person also loves another franchise, our Star Wars gift guide and Harry Potter gift guide are sorted the same way, by recipient.
